Beattitudes Home Health Care, Inc. started in the heart of a little girl about 8 years old. This little girl lived about 5 blocks from her great grand mother in a little town called Albouystown. Whenever Granny would become ill, it seems like the little girl would know by some inner guidance and she would go to visit her great grand ma, only to find her sick in bed and unable to get up and take care of herself.
The little girl found the strength to help her bed-bound grand ma get changed and cleaned up. She would make coffee and serve it with palm bread and butter; this was granny’s favorite meal.
Each time of the three times this occurred, Granny would look me in the eye and say ‘Thank you girlie”
As long as I live I will never forget the look in those eyes. A look that said “This is why you were created”
In those days we did not know anything about dementia. She called all her female grand children “girlie”, because there were many of us and she did not remember all the names.
All the house cleaning and the washing of the soiled clothing would be done with delight and diligence by the little girl. The clothing would be washed at the stand pipe in the yard and hung on the fence to dry.
Well, Granny passed and I went on from primary to university where I studied Banking and Finance .
I held many jobs. Then I needed to work another job to pay for my new car. My neighbor, who was a home health aide told me about this kind of work. I found a job as a direct care counselor at a group home, but something was different about this job. Every time I finished my shift, I would feel this extraordinary sense of joy and fulfillment after having served the residents. This joy and fulfillment outweighed everything else.
Then it hit home and tears came to my eyes after some 39 years following the death of my great grand ma. “This is why you were created”
So, with more than 15 years in the field of home health care, I decided to pursue studies in human services. After graduating with high honors I decided that I will serve the people who are responsible for making this country such a great one. Let them finish up with dignity and integrity, in their own homes, where they have many great memories. Should they require service in the nursing home, we will be there as well.
With genuine care, I started this awesome company with the help of my Lord and Savior, Jesus The Christ. I realize that my attitude and the attitude of my staff, must be a caring one from the heart, thus Beattitudes with two t’s.
There is no feeling like the one that comes from serving another human being who cannot do for himself/herself…absolutely none. I will not trade what I do for any other job. Even as the Executive Director and owner of Beattitudes Home Health Care, Inc., I fill in here and there, as a reminder of how it all started and as a reminder of my humble and priceless beginnings in the field of HOME HEALTH CARE.
